Organizations and Health
Organizations in the context of health communication encompasses the areas of traditional health organizations, within the context of physician assimilation into medicine and managed care, and alternative health organizations (both nongovernmental and faith-based) within the context of community organizing and health.
Physician Assimilation into Medicine
To become a physician in the United States, one begins by gaining admission to a school of medicine in pursuit of either an M.D. (doctor of medicine) degree, based on allopathic medicine, or a D.O. (doctor of osteopathic medicine) degree, based on osteopathy. Although osteopathic medicine was founded as a challenge to allopathy, today both institutions of training are virtually indistinguishable.
