Healthy People Initiative

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the U.S. government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. HHS is the lead agency in the federal government for the Healthy People initiative, a comprehensive national agenda that communicates a vision for improving health and achieving health equity by setting measurable objectives and assessing progress throughout each decade.

Launched in 1979, Healthy People is the longest-running disease prevention and health promotion plan in the United States.
