Licensure and Certification

Teacher licensure in education is a credentialing arrangement that requires prospective teachers to earn a license from a state authority in order to work as a professional educator in public schools in that state. The goal of licensure is to ensure that all teachers meet a minimal standard of quality. The licensure and certification of teachers plays a critical role in current education policy debates.
