Situational crime prevention (SCP) is a crime prevention strategy that seeks to reduce the opportunities for disorder and criminal activity. It adopts changes to the physical environment to make it harder to commit criminal acts and for offenders to find less reward in their criminal endeavors. In addition to making crime more difficult, it attempts to create situations where there is an increased sense of the likelihood of apprehension, leading to offender desistance and deterrence. In short, SCP makes crime less attractive by reducing crime facilitators and removing the benefits of criminal activity.
