Vermont shares about 95 miles of border with Canada and this, along with interstate highways I-89 and I-91, both of which terminate at the Canadian border, makes Vermont a prime location for drugs to enter the United States from Canada. Both Mexican and Canadian marijuana is supplied to the state, and locally-grown marijuana is available as well. Club drugs including MDMA (ecstasy) are sporadically available in Vermont, particularly in Burlington, the largest city in the state and home to the University of Vermont. MDMA was legal in Vermont until 2001, and MDMA bound for other U.S. states frequently enters the country through the state.
