The Bahamas is an archipelago of 700 islands that are positioned approximately 50 miles east of the Florida coastline. The estimated land area of the Bahamas is 5,400 square miles, however, over 100,000 square miles are considered Bahamian territorial waters. Often referred to as the third border of the United States, the Bahamas is strategically positioned between the global leader of cocaine production to the south (Colombia) and the global leader of illicit drug consumption to the north (the United States).
