Preparing preservice teachers for diverse classrooms during teacher education has become a consistent focus of research in the field of teacher education over the past 25 years. The field has evolved and shifted from critiques that it does not focus enough on diversity, to consistent studies and programs that do. Research on diversity and teacher education has moved the field forward in building a knowledge base, but as a field of study, it is still developing. Some critique this line of research in teacher education because many of the studies are qualitative, and critiques suggest that the studies are not sufficiently rigorous.
