Gifted education in Asia has experienced significant changes in the past 4 decades. Although most Asian countries have increasingly recognized the need to provide special education programs for gifted children, they differ in the pace of gifted education development and in the policies and actual practices of gifted program provision. Despite the differences, many Asian countries face remarkably similar challenges and issues that include how best to define and assess giftedness and talents, develop and deliver gifted programs, evaluate gifted program effectiveness, meet the social and emotional needs of gifted students, and train teachers of gifted learners.
