Write-Say Method

The write-say method is a behavioral strategy designed to improve academic performance in children. It has typically been used to improve spelling accuracy or to teach basic math facts such as multiplication tables. It is most effective in teaching material that requires rote memorization. It has been used to teach material to children with and without learning disabilities, as well as children with mental retardation. For spelling, the write-say method requires that the child write the spelling word on a sheet of paper after the teacher has spoken the word aloud.
