Introduction

I begin this chapter with a definition of youth work. Whilst definitions of youth work are discussed in more depth and breadth elsewhere in this publication, here I deliberately use an England-centric one to illuminate something of the purpose of and debates around youth work in the whole of the UK, but also, through the brief introductory critical discussion, something of the complexity of youth work. This leads me into discussion of reflective practice, the focus of the chapter.
