Introduction

The question of how we care for young people as we enter the early 21st century is increasingly complex and contested. Without a doubt, life for young people has become increasingly complicated, if not more difficult. The advent of capitalism as a fully global force has significantly altered the social, cultural and economic landscape of everyone’s life, as we move from the world of the 20th-century industrial capitalist order into the realm of virtual capitalist rule (Boggs, 2012; Hardt and Negri, 2001; Negri, 1996).
