Recording and transcribing social interaction are practical skills that require many years of experience to master, and both these research methods are underpinned by a number of theoretical and political issues. Despite the importance of transcript-based research in the humanities and social sciences, researchers have devoted very little time in publishing works that explore the complexities and challenges of recording and transcribing social interaction data. This contribution narrows this gap by engaging in the literature that addresses both the theories and practices related to recording and transcribing social interaction.
