INTRODUCTION

This small study arose from a collaborative project to develop the pre-primary curriculum and provision in a group of Ethiopian government primary schools. In Ethiopia, pre-primary schooling is a relatively recent phase of the education system, which hitherto has been focused on the successful achievement of Millennium Development Goal 4 of Universal Primary Education, with 90% of children aged 7–11 now in Grades 1–4.
