Introduction

There has been significant policy and programmatic focus on food security in developing countries both by governments and international development agencies. However, there has been relatively little explicit focus on food security in urban areas. Additionally, the policies and programmes have considered food insecurity solely as insufficiency and have failed to acknowledge new forms of food insecurity which have established themselves in development countries, most importantly obesity and its related non-communicable diseases.
