Middle-Aged Learners
Colleges and universities are seeing an increase in middle-aged learners as a result of midcareer job changes, the economy, and the availability of alternative learning options. Historically, the natural progression for many was to enter college after finishing high school, but not all who enter college exit with a degree or complete their program of study. Middle-aged learners who make the decision to go back to school may be doing so for a variety of reasons. The most common is a job loss or career change. Other reasons include the opportunity for career advancement through obtaining an alternative or higher level degree.
