Communication Education
A communication channel is the pathway along which a message created or encoded by a sender is transmitted to a receiver. The earliest form of communication study was public speaking, found at the Rhetorical School at Athens in the mid-400s BCE. The face-to-face channel is now one of many different channels we can use to communicate with individuals or groups. Each of these channels, sometimes called the medium, has benefits and drawbacks, but all these channels function as a means of transmission, of moving a message from its creator to a receiver. The channel may change, but the foundation of the communication process is the same; encoded messages are sent along a pathway.
