Adolescent Learners
Adolescence is the critical transition period from childhood to adulthood, usually identified as lasting from ages 10 to 19. Adolescent learners often learn differently from either children or adults. This period includes three important and interrelated transitions: (1) the formation of a young person’s social identity, (2) enhanced moral reasoning, and (3) the development of intelligence in relation to complex thinking, such as the ability to use symbols related to abstract and formal reasoning in logical ways, although not everybody develops the capacity to address formal operations during adolescence or adulthood.
