Western Association of Schools and Colleges
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) was formed in 1962 as the successor to what was called the Western College Association. For many years, WASC was a single nonprofit entity that included three commissions responsible for accreditation of schools and colleges in the Western region of the United States. In 2012–2013, the three commissions reincorporated as separate organizations that all use the WASC acronym, but each has an independent scope and governance structure.
The three commissions are among the regional accrediting agencies that operate in six different regions in the United States.
