Cognitive Bias Modification

Cognitive bias refers to a tendency to attend to, acquire, and process information in characteristic patterns. Specific types of cognitive biases have been implicated in the development and maintenance of psychological disorders. Two primary forms of cognitive bias that have been identified and evaluated are (1) attention bias and (2) interpretation bias. Attention bias refers to the differential allocation of attention toward one stimulus relative to another stimulus. Interpretation bias refers to a tendency to interpret information, especially ambiguous information, in characteristic ways.

Cognitive bias modification (CBM) refers to computer-based treatment approaches that aim to modify cognitive biases believed to maintain psychological disorders.
