This introductory chapter sets the stage for the remainder of this handbook by presenting a brief historical review of the literature on the employment interview since 1915. The historical review highlights key events, findings, and shifts in research trends up through the 1990s and offers speculation about the future challenges and developments that await tomorrow's employment interview researcher. We conclude with an introduction to the contributed chapters that make up this handbook by placing each chapter's unique perspective within an integrated framework.
