THE UNIVERSITY OF California, Irvine (UCI), is located in Irvine, California. It was founded in 1965 and is part of the University of California system. UCI offers education in a broad variety of disciplines, and is a leading research institution in the United States. Biological research is carried out in the School of Biological Sciences, School of Medicine, and the College of Health Sciences. Research in the stem cell sciences is carried out at the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC), funded partly through the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). At the SCRC, research foci span from basic stem cell science to neurodegenerative repair.
