Managing Business Political Advocacy in the United States: Opportunities for Improved Effectiveness
Political advocacy is a strategic move by which some businesses attempt to mitigate threats or create opportunities in their external environment. In this chapter political advocacy refers to efforts by businesses to advance their public policy interests by acting individually or in concert with other businesses or politically active groups. Political actions may be directed to state or federal policy makers in the legislative or executive branches of government. Some business advocacy efforts are also undertaken through the judicial branch, but space constraints will preclude consideration of those here.
