The family is an embodied institution. The functions it fulfills, as well as the behaviors and emotions that emerge from individual families, center on biological processes that occur in and through human bodies. Sexuality, procreation, parenting, and family caregiving are all accomplished through bodies. Moreover, bodies—and families, as a result—are gendered.
