The Internet provides news and information to a huge and growing audience and so has the potential to be as powerful a resource as broadcast media. By the fall of 2005, the percentage of Americans with home Internet access had risen to 68% (Fox, 2005), up from 55% in the fall of 2000 (Rainie & Packel, 2001). This audience appears to use the Internet as a source of information when making important decisions.
