There have been only a handful of UK evaluations of workplace counselling programmes. The Post Office study (Cooper et al., 1990), which evaluated an internal workplace counselling service, is one of these few. This paucity of UK evaluation research led the Health and Safety Executive to commission an evaluation of UK workplace counselling programmes, which was carried out independently by the Manchester School of Management (Highley and Cooper, 1995).
