In 2005, the European spinal implant market, comprising traditional thoracolumbar implants, traditional cervical implants, interbody devices (IBDs), and nonfusion technologies, was valued at almost $300 million. This market continues to be dominated by traditional thoracolumbar implants, which represented more than half of the total European revenues. Over the next 5 years this market will benefit from an aging demographic, increased use of instrumentation, greater penetration of IBDs, the adoption of nonfusion technologies, greater acceptance of minimally invasive procedures, and continued surgeon training.
