In 2005, more than 60 image guided surgery (IGS) systems were sold in Japan, with IGS sales volumes increasing in all surgical specialties. Primary drivers of growth in 2005 were patient and physician desire for better clinical outcomes, demand for minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and surgeons’ improved perception of IGS. These factors will continue to drive unit sales over the forecast period, despite many tight hospital budget constraints in Japan.
