In 2005, more than 500 image guided surgery (IGS) systems were sold in Europe, with IGS sales volumes increasing in all European regions and across all specialties. Primary drivers of growth in 2005 were patient and physician desire for better clinical outcomes, increasing acceptance of IGS, and the prestige associated with IGS use. These factors will continue to drive unit sales over the forecast period, despite many IGS specialty markets nearing maturity. The maturing markets will, nonetheless, result in a larger proportion of replacement sales over the forecast period. These units are typically discounted and will cause some average selling price (ASP) decline.
