Expressiveness
The degree to which someone uses language to communicate a thought. The degree of expressiveness will vary depending on the cultural influences. There is less agreement among social scientists on why these differences exist. While some researchers propose that innate differences in how infants in different ethnic groups react to distress underlie the subsequent differences in emotional expressivity, other theories support the view that cultural and family environments influence a child's expressiveness.
Culture and family environment influence children's facial expressivity and create differences among children of the same ethnicity, as suggested by results from a study of four groups of young Chinese and American girls. In general, adopted Chinese girls were more expressive than Chinese American and mainland Chinese girls.
