Expert Testimony
Statements made in court by a qualified individual (or expert) based on his or her knowledge, education, training, or previous experience. Expert testimonies are very different from lay-witness testimonies, which are not based on expertise but rather on observation or recollection of events. Some examples of qualified individuals who may provide expert testimonies are forensic psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and so on. Expert testimonies are used to address the legitimacy of evidence presented in court.
