  • The general ambience, attitude, organization, or “style” of a culture. It was a term used by the culture-and-personality or psychological anthropology school because it was helpful in discussing the relationship between individuals and their society. If a culture has a particular ethos, its members would tend to have certain related personalities. The term is not widely used today, but the concept is one that appears in stereotypes.
