  • The critical analysis of a situation, condition, or problem or the conclusion(s) reached by this process of critical examination. A diagnosis can also refer to the label applied to a specific condition. Although commonly associated with medical procedures, it is widely used in other professions to descriptively identify a problem. In the behavioral sciences, the process of diagnosis usually consists of a history of the situation, the current status, assessment tests, and interviews with clients and collaterals. The resulting diagnostic statement is a concise summary of the results of this investigation.
