  • Statistical data for a defined human population with relation to their size, structure, and distribution and the relative change over time. Demographic information is very often culturally based and typically includes variables such as age, gender, race, income, occupation, and educational attainment. Detailed demographic information is often recorded in a region or country census and is periodi cally updated. In addition, records of events such as birth, deaths, migrations, marriages, divorces, and so on complement population censuses.

    Demographic data are often used by governments to measure trends ranging from immigration patterns to wealth distribution. Data are also largely used during election periods to predict voting outcomes and to focus campaign efforts.
