An individual's level of responsibility or blameworthiness for a particular behavior or action. The word culpability is derived from the Latin cupa, meaning “fault.” In the law, the level of culpability, or lack thereof, can aggravate or mitigate a criminal charge. Levels of culpability include a crime that is committed intentionally, knowingly, negligently, or recklessly.
