  • Two or more sentences that are served one after the other. The length of punishment equals the sum of all the sentences. On the day the offender completes the punishment for his or her first offense, he or she will begin serving the sentence for the next charge. This differs from concurrent sentencing, in which the offender serves all sentences at the same time; consecutive sentencing punishes the offender for a longer period of time.
