  • A Latin term that means “guilty act.” It is one of two necessary elements of a crime, the other being mens rea or “guilty mind” (the intent to commit the crime). The actus reus is the physical act of a crime. Each element must be independently proven beyond a reasonable doubt to convict someone of an illegal act.
