  • Any means of communicating information, including memos, reports, meetings, newsletters, telephone, Internet, and the like. In technology, the term is used for a part in a communication system that connects a data source to a data sink. In radio and television communication, for example, it is a specific radio frequency—denoted by a letter or a number—that is used by the receiver to tune in to the channel. In the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network, a channel is a “room” in which people can communicate with each other. A channel also refers to television channels and is used frequently in terms such as favorite channel meaning the network one prefers.
