  • The structure and set of regulations in place to control activity, usually in large organizations and government. It is represented by rules and procedures that dictate the execution of most or all processes within the particular body. Included in the structure are formal divisions of power, along with a hierarchy and the relationships that form from that hierarchy within the organization. The practice of bureaucracy can lead to informal influence. When one says that something is “very bureaucratic,” the person is stating that there are many delays on the road to the solution, which are inherent in any organization that follows rules set by the same group.
