  • Primarily a visual art form, with a soundtrack but usually no dialogue. The shortness of the piece and lack of dialogue make plot and character development difficult. Videos convey emotion rather than narrative. Music videos are short films made to accompany a song. They are commercial entities, intended to advertise and market the song, and exist as a genre somewhere in between advertisements and movies.

    Music videos may be divided into the performative and the conceptual. Performance videos typically show the musicians playing, usually before an audience or in a recording studio and shots of the band traveling or setting up.
