  • The culmination of a decision-making process that follows a presentation of evidence regarding any given issue. In the context of the criminal justice system, a verdict refers to the judgment delivered by a judge or jury after having been presented the facts about a case. The verdict determines the guilt or innocence of the defendant. Once the verdict has been delivered, the judge decides on the appropriate sentence for the given offense.
