  • A change in the form, nature, or character of an individual or thing. In sociology, “social transformations” reflect changes in a culture and the associated collective identity, such as those that arise as the result of industrialization, forced migration, tourism, or democratization. Study of such social transformations analyzes the ways they affect individuals, groups, and cultures economically, socially, and politically. Much of the recent research on social transformation has focused on the impact of modernization and globalization on homogenization and diversity.
