  • A broad term referring, in part, to monitoring of human behavior. Usually refer ring to visual observation, it can also include telephone tapping, secret listening devices, global positioning system (GPS) tracking, and electronic tagging of objects. Closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) are increasingly being placed in public places, including city streets. With augmented surveillance systems comes the threat of loss of privacy.
