Structuralism (Education)
A theory based on the assumption that social or cultural practices are the result of the underlying structures that govern human behavior and interaction. Each society or culture operates on the basis of these structures. Differences among societies or cultures are explained through differences in these relationships. Structuralism posits that human actions are purposeful and methodical and are functional representations of the structures. It is argued that only a thorough investigation of the structures can result in an adequate understanding of the society or culture.
