  • The purposeful, malicious, and repeated following and harassing of another person. The visual or physical proximity to the victim is unwanted, as is any communication the stalker has with the victim. Stalkers may also verbally or in written form threaten their victims, causing them to fear imminent danger. Approximately half of all states have enacted statutes that make stalking a crime. Originally designed to protect women from past boyfriends or husbands, celebrities have also made use of the law against fans who are strangers following and harassing them.
