  • One who commits an infraction of the law. An offender is a person charged with or convicted of a criminal offense. An offense is a violation of criminal law. Felony offenses are serious criminal offenses punishable by more than one year in prison; misdemeanor offenses are punishable by up to one year in jail; and infractions are the least serious offenses, for which offenders can receive no more than a few days in jail (and typically receive just a fine).
