  • The neurons that operate together to perform complex functions. Researchers have estab lished that memories are not based in particular localized brain cells. Instead, memories are coded, stored, and retrieved by complex circuits of neurons in the brain, or neural networks. Based on research investigating the laws of learning and the ways in which neurons communicate and adjust their synaptic connections, psychologists have been attempting to develop models detailing how these networks are established.
