  • An analysis to identify the gap between the current and ideal situations and depicting the ways of reducing those discrepancies. If there is a problem in any instructional or program context, the initial step is the establishment of a needs assessment (aka analysis). It is a process of collecting problem-related information from all possible sources so that clear descriptions of the desired and existing states can be formed. By scrutinizing these states, the gaps are identified in terms of needs. Critical needs are selected from previously defined needs, and possible solutions to overcome the problem are described.
