  • A term used in the field of anthropology to refer to identification, contact, and connection among people, concepts, or things. Association also refers to grouping entities based on such connections. There are three primary means by which to associate. A group is a collection with fixed boundaries and whose members share belonging. Examples include families, corporations, and nations. A network is a web of connections with no set boundaries, and members may only be linked to a few other associates. Examples include customers or friends. A category is any grouping of people with one or more shared attributes or goals. Examples include African Americans, teenagers, or football fans.
