  • The utilization of a communication medium to connect media messages to targeted audiences for consumption. Examples of media outlets are radio stations, television stations, and newspapers. Media outlets provide direct exposure of products to key audiences, such as advertising lipstick in women's magazines. They also provide news or entertainment programming to audiences. In today's media landscape, most media outlets are owned by a few corporations or conglomerates; media ownership is generally considered to be highly concentrated. One example of media consolidation is the CBS Corporation, which owns the CBS television network, CBS radio, and the Simon & Schuster publishing house.
