  • The ideal of fair and equitable dealing or right action. Justice is presupposed when we ask questions about how we should act toward others. Although often used as a synonym for law, justice in the broader sense means fairness. In Aristotle's terms, justice as fairness consists in treating equals equally and nonequals unequally, in proportion to their relative differences.
